A video log filmed by JEJ for FACADE.
the spanish embassy in paris served as a perfect backdrop for a scene and a collection that were undeniably español. spanish wine was served, looked after by la casa’s mayordoma, replete in black and white uniform. and true to the spanish pace of production, the show commenced an hour late. happily, amaya arzuaga’s collection was well worth the wait in the building’s lush interiors.
the dresses, many of which featured empire lines and waisted shifts, were a triumph. skillfully draped pieces conniving with brave volumes astonishingly left its wearers long and lean to the eye. colour combinations were bold, grahic, yet subtle. as with all the features, they were essential, instead of decorative.
arzuaga exhibited the best of what the spanish (and herself) can do. her pieces were akin to the fabulous architecture that can be found in her native land. and in the vein of madame grès and nina ricci, arzuaga once again shows us how women can dress women with spectacular results.
